THREE MORE RESTAURANTS ANNOUNCED FOR REIMAGINED DEL MAR HIGHLANDS TOWN CENTER
Additionl dining options to come with renovation including a wine bar, rustic trattoria and urban natural fresh food eatery

San Diego, Calif. – (February 28, 2011) – Three new restaurants will soon open at the Del Mar Highlands Town Center – Urban Plates, Mia Francesca Del Mar and Davanti Enoteca. The newcomers are in addition to four other restaurants the center recently announced as part of its dramatic renovation.

“Urban Plates, Mia Francesca Del Mar and Davanti Enoteca will be excellent complements to the Del Mar Highlands Town Center,” said Elizabeth Schreiber, Vice President and General Manager for Donahue Schriber, owner and operator of Del Mar Highlands Town Center. “Through our renovation, we are bringing an increased variety of quality dining, shopping and entertainment options to the Carmel Valley community.”

Urban Plates is a fresh, convenient and affordable casual dine-in and take-out restaurant offering seasonal salads, grilled meats, poultry, seafood, high-quality sandwiches, soups, gourmet desserts, and beverages including organic coffee, wine and beer. Urban Plates focuses on scratch preparation using the finest ingredients. The majority of its produce will be organic and sourced from local farms and its beef and poultry will be grain fed as well as hormone and antibiotic free. Bread and desserts will be baked daily on site and the menu will include gluten-free, whole grain, trans-fat free and low-sugar and sodium options.

To give customers more control of the ordering process and dining experience, Urban Plates offers an open kitchen concept complete with hand carved natural meats and abundant display of salads, side dishes, soups, and baked goods prepared in full view of the customer. Menu selections will focus on the Urban Greens consisting of entrée salads and natural grilled artisan bread, the Urban Plate consisting of a choice of meat or seafood and two hot or cold sides and natural grilled artisan bread, the Urban Sandwich and the Urban Bowl consisting of organic brown or white rice topped with fresh vegetables and meats prepared in our signature sauces. Affordably priced complete meals to feed a family or other group will also be offered. The creation of three local restaurateurs with 60 years of combined restaurant experience, Urban Plates will open late Spring a few doors down from Jimbo’s… Naturally!

“Del Mar Highlands Town Center is the ideal location for the Urban Plates concept,” said Saad Nadhir, John Zagara and Pat Lynch, Co-Founders of Urban Plates. “The existing tenants are complementary to our style and concept, and we know the community will enjoy our variety of affordable high quality wholesome food choices.”

Del Mar Highlands Town Center also welcomes Mia Francesca Del Mar and Davanti Enoteca, two restaurants new to San Diego but popular in Chicago. Owner and Chef Scott Harris was recently named “Restaurateur of the Year” by the Chicago Tribune and a semifinalist for the 2011 “Restaurateur of the Year” award by the James Beard Foundation. At Mia Francesca Del Mar, diners will enjoy creative and delicious dishes made from locally sourced ingredients including antipasti, salads, soups, pastas, seafood and other classic Italian entrees.

Davanti Enoteca is a hip wine bar focusing on simple and rustic fresh food that pairs well with its wide selection of wines. The tapas-like menu boasts dishes that can be shared such as a variety of specialty spreads, cheeses and meats, as well as individual entrees including salads, pastas and fresh seafood. Mia Francesca Del Mar and Davanti Enoteca will open this summer in two spots on the second floor of the newly-renovated Del Mar Highlands Town Center amphitheater, across from the movie theater.

“I have wanted to open a restaurant in San Diego’s beautiful North County for a long time,” said Harris. “Being located near the movie theater in the amphitheater at Del Mar Highlands Town Center will allow both Mia Francesca Del Mar and Davanti Enoteca to be a part of a great night out experience.”

Urban Plates, Mia Francesca and Davanti Enoteca join Top Chef finalist Brian Malarkey’s Burlap, Rimel’s Rotisserie, The Counter, and Carmel Valley Swirls as new dining options recently announced for the Del Mar Highlands Town Center, which is currently undergoing a Re-Imagining. Additional leases are expected to be announced soon and renovations at the center are expected to be complete by Summer 2011.
